From the year 2003, there have been over one hundred and fifty thousand knee replacements sold from Zimmer Nexgen all over the world. In the year 2010 though, there are a small number of orthopedic knee surgeons who presented data that went to show that the failure rate of these knee replacements was higher than expected. This translates to over a hundred thousand individuals who were fitted with faulty knee replacements. The surgeons reiterated their point by claiming that the occurrences of complications is even higher than the number of the patients who had been fitted with potentially faulty knee replacements. A separate study went on to show that approximately thirty six percent of the implants that had been fitted into patients became significantly loose in just a short period of two years after the patient had undergone surgery.

Additional research was done on the Zimmer Nexgen implant by the medical centre of Rush university in Chicago. The researchers at that university had a look at about a hundred and eight patients who had undergone knee replacement surgery and had been fitted with the Zimmer Nexgen implants. The findings of this research would prompt patients to look into a lawsuit due to the faulty product. Nine of the patients from the whole batch would require having a second surgery done due to pain from the implant as the knee implant was loosening. In addition to that, radiographic loosening of the knee implants was detected in thirty nine of the patients who had undergone the knee replacement surgery. This radiographic loosening of the implants was not related to any specific surgeons or medical approaches thus they could only be blamed on the product. This has led to a number of orthopedic surgeons who specifically deal with knee replacement surgery to demand for a Zimmer Nexgen recall.

Although the outcry for a Zimmer Nexgen recall is loud and clear, the manufacturer still maintains that their product is up to par. So why are the products associated with the Zimmer Nexgen recall faulty? For one, the product is not designed the same way that traditional knee replacement implants are made. Just like the traditional implant, the new one is attached to the high bone. However, this attachment is done without the traditional cement. Some critics say the lack of cement makes the new implant highly susceptible to loosening and thus the need for the Zimmer Nexgen recall. When the implant becomes loose, it causes severe pain to the patient as it starts to move about. In some cases, the implant completely detaches itself and this could prove to be quite excruciating.

Patients who have knee replacement surgery and are experiencing problems such as excruciating pain or any type of difficulty when walking are advised to visit their physicians and find out if liability lies with the Zimmer Nexgen knee replacement. In addition to this, they should get in touch with an attorney or lawyer who can file a lawsuit for them in case of a Zimmer Nexgen recall in the future.
